I am not working for this company now but the livestock collar’s final PCB had three aerials. GNSS patch, Bluetooth and LoRaWAN using an 868MHz RF solutions Bead, plus NFC. The range is 3KM at the fastest bit rate SF=7, located on a farm.
The aerials are on top of a metal 0V plane of the PCB with components and modules underneath. There is just one gateway and it is working much better we were advised it may work. The PCB is; 90x45mm is very densely packed but using modest design rules but the PCB is as small as aerial placement would allow with the advice given and is covered in 0V vias.
